Life is WAY too

short to spend

another day

at war with yourself.

Depression is one of the mind and body’s ways of saying you NEED to make a change.

I think everybody experiences a sense of depression every now and again.

In fact, chances are we all know someone who has struggled to cope with an often debilitating mental health condition. I mean, most people will experience a sense of depression every now and again right? HOWEVER, many young people in this day and age experience a kind of depression that feels as if It’s eating them from the inside, to out. They’re no longer having any fun. And sometimes, it appears downright hard to function.

This is because, one of depression’s distinct features is a person's loss of interest in seemingly… everything. Many people will take action in some circumstances because they believe that making a positive change will result in favourable outcomes or future satisfaction. Yet suffering from depression can ultimately change the way in which the brain works. So much so, a person can struggle to experience a sense of pleasure or reward, making it hard for them to create positive change.

In my early years of becoming a teenager, I didn’t even know the definition of depression. Now, It’s something that I face an ongoing feud with on a regular basis. On some days, I myself have felt that I have suffered in complete silence. In complete darkness. So much so, I have caused myself to feel totally and utterly insignificant in this world.

“YOU ARE NOT ALONE.” The one thing I always wanted to hear on my darkest days. Four words that need to be stressed to every child, young person, older person and pensioner! People MUST know that there are many other people experiencing the same thoughts and feelings as them.

Depression is one of the mind and body’s ways of saying you NEED to make a change. Re-read that.

Accepting it and listening to it, will help facilitate the change you need.

So, if you’ve read to this point then perhaps you yourself feel symptoms of depression or know somebody who does. If not, then maybe you’re just intrigued, or a good reader. Each person will have their own story to tell. But whichever beautiful being you are, depression or no depression;

"You are not the same person you were last year. And next year, you will not be the person you are today. Because people change, people grow, people are not concrete objects that stay the same as the cracks get deeper and more numerous. If you want to be something, you go be it. Do not let anyone hold you back, especially the person you were yesterday".

My journey with mental health has lead me to desperately want to reach out to others and try help meet the needs of those who do in fact, feel they are suffering in silence. Therefore, I wanted the pages of this side of my blog to foster a space where young people can feel respected and accepted in their own skin. I wanted to make contact information accessible to anybody who felt they wanted / needed a chat about anything - For company or support.
